An elegant Congolese celebration filled with colour, joy, and music
Some weddings stay with you long after the last dance — and Valencia & Yannick’s white wedding at The Decorium in Wood Green is one of those. Just a few weeks earlier, I’d captured their traditional African wedding at home in Hounslow (a BBQ, bright colours, and endless laughter). This time, it was all about elegance, grandeur, and a full-scale Congolese party that brought The Decorium to life.
The day started at West Lodge Park, where bridal preparations were full of fun and emotion. There’s always something special about those first hours — the excitement, the little jokes between bridesmaids, and the way a bride transforms from “nearly ready” to absolutely radiant. Yannick, of course, was fashionably late (in true Congolese style 😄), but Valencia was right on time and glowing with confidence.
The ceremony at The Decorium was everything you’d expect from such a couple: heartfelt, emotional, and unforgettable. But it was the reception that truly showed the spirit of a Congolese wedding. The music, the colours, the dancing — it was pure energy from start to finish. If you’ve never been to an African wedding, imagine the joy dialled up to maximum and then doubled. That’s what photographing this celebration felt like.
We even snuck back to West Lodge Park for a quick couple’s portrait session in between — a chance to catch our breath before diving back into the whirlwind of dancing, speeches, and laughter that made the night unforgettable.
