A joyful mandap ceremony and Indian celebration in the heart of Staffordshire
If you’re planning a Hindu wedding in the English countryside, Alrewas Hayes is a hidden gem. Nestled in the heart of rural Staffordshire, this 100-acre Grade II listed country estate was the perfect setting for P & N’s day. And what a day it was: colour, laughter, rituals steeped in tradition, and a party that could have gone on forever.
Baraat & Mandap Ceremony
The energy started with the baraat — drums, dancing, and P making his entrance like the star of the show. Guests joined in, turning the driveway into a street-party-meets-Bollywood-scene.
Inside, the mandap took centre stage. Draped in rich silks and fresh flowers, it glowed against the backdrop of the Great Barn, one of the venue’s most versatile spaces. From the kanyadaan to the saptapadi around the sacred fire, every moment carried both sacred weight and joyful smiles. N’s family showered petals, P’s family cracked jokes, and the whole ceremony was a perfect balance of meaning and fun.
Portraits Around the Estate
Afterwards, we slipped away into the grounds. Alrewas Hayes is a dream for an Indian wedding photographer — there’s the courtyard with ivy-clad walls, woodland paths that feel secretive, and open lawns where the golden light pours in. One of my favourite moments was P & N framed by the trellis roses, a quiet breather before diving back into the celebrations.
Evening Reception
The evening reception flowed seamlessly from the ceremony into the Lakeside marquee, which Alrewas Hayes is so well known for. Chandeliers hung from the draped ceiling, fairy lights twinkled outside, and the space was big enough to host their entire guest list (this venue can handle up to 650 guests for large Indian weddings).
The speeches had everyone laughing, and when the dhol players hit their rhythm, the dance floor filled instantly. Guests spilled out into a temporary outdoor pavilion under the stars, giving the night a festival feel. The combination of countryside calm and non-stop energy is what made this reception so memorable.
