From chapel vows to barn-floor mayhem (with alpacas!)
When you mix a British bride, an American groom, alpacas, a Hertfordshire barn, and a DJ with way too much energy — you already know it’s going to be a wedding worth remembering. Calm (ish) Beginnings at Hanbury Manor
The morning at Hanbury Manor looked calm on the surface: make-up brushes, champagne glasses, buttonholes being wrestled onto jackets. But beneath it all, nerves and excitement were bubbling. Melissa was glowing, Ben was nervously cracking jokes, and I was quietly thinking, “yep, this day’s going to go off.”
A Catholic Ceremony at Haileybury Chapel
The Catholic service at Haileybury Chapel in Hertford Heath was the serious bit — high arches, reverent quiet, every word echoing like it was written for them. Ben’s face when Melissa walked down the aisle? Priceless. Equal parts awe, nerves, and “how did I get this lucky?”
Afternoon Arrival at Coltsfoot Country Retreat
By the afternoon we rolled up at Coltsfoot Country Retreat. It’s an exclusive-use barn in the Hertfordshire countryside, and oh — did I mention the alpacas? Because yes, they definitely made a cameo. Somewhere between vows and portraits, one wandered into the background like it had been hired as a guest.
The venue itself is a gem: barns, courtyards, fields stretching out. Rustic charm meets boutique elegance — the kind of place where you can have heartfelt speeches one moment and a full-on rave the next.
Portraits, Speeches & Barn-Floor Madness
Portraits were easy with these two — Melissa leaning into Ben’s shoulder, him trying to keep a straight face, both of them cracking up every five seconds. Authentic, joyful, effortless.
Then came the speeches: tears, belly laughs, and at least one joke that made half the room spit out their drink. And when Ian J Mullinger from SO Discos Entertainments took over, forget it — the barn floor turned into chaos. People danced like nobody was watching (spoiler: I was, with a camera). Even the alpacas looked impressed.
