Emotions, laughter, and a little line dancing in the heart of Beds
Every so often, I get to photograph a wedding that feels less like work and more like hanging out with family. That was exactly the case with Peter & Alison’s wedding at Flitwick Manor. These two aren’t just clients — they’re our dear friends, neighbours, BBQ partners, and fellow enthusiasts of good laughs (and the occasional strong drink).
Peter is, without exaggeration, the most emotional person I know. Honestly, he could probably tear up at a good supermarket advert. So you can imagine what he was like on his wedding day. From the moment Alison walked in, I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the room — and that was before the vows even started!
Flitwick Manor turned out to be the perfect venue for a day like this. Set in the Bedfordshire countryside, it’s elegant without being stuffy — just right for a couple who wanted warmth and intimacy rather than pomp and formality. The Georgian manor house and its landscaped gardens gave us plenty of backdrops for portraits, but what made it truly special was how personal everything felt.
And of course, being line-dance teachers, Peter & Alison couldn’t resist sneaking a bit of their signature moves into the celebration. Forget the traditional first dance — when you’ve got two pros on the floor, you know it’s going to be a party starter. Guests loved it, and so did I (though, for everyone’s sake, I stuck firmly behind the camera instead of joining in).
It was a day full of laughter, tears, hugs, and the kind of joy that you just can’t stage. For me, weddings like this are a reminder that photography isn’t about perfection — it’s about emotion, connection, and catching those in-between moments that mean the world.
