Tradition, joy, and a party to remember at this iconic venuE
Some weddings feel like they were designed to keep me grinning behind the camera all day, and S & M’s Sikh wedding at Hatfield House was exactly that. From the early morning preparations to the final song of the night, it was non-stop colour, energy, and laughter.
The day began at S’s parents’ home, where I was greeted not only by her warm family but also by the family cat, who clearly took her role as wedding supervisor very seriously. Between cups of Masala Chai (the best I’ve ever had, by the way) and peeks at childhood photos on the walls, the atmosphere was relaxed, personal, and full of love.
At the Gurdwara in Hitchin, the ceremony was moving and powerful, with S’s younger brother stepping up as the Dhol player — and absolutely nailing it. The sound of the drum rolled through the space and set the tone for a day that was equal parts spiritual and joyful.
Then came the reception at Hatfield House, and wow, what a backdrop. This Grade I listed Jacobean mansion is one of Hertfordshire’s most breathtaking venues. Its high ceilings, grand windows, and warm light made it a photographer’s dream. While the guests enjoyed delicious food and speeches inside, we sneaked out into the gardens for some portraits. Between the historic architecture and the landscaped grounds, every corner of Hatfield House feels like it was made for wedding photography.
And of course, the party that followed didn’t disappoint. With friends and family filling the dance floor, laughter echoing through the halls, and moments of pure chaos mixed with heartfelt emotion, it was the kind of celebration I’ll never forget.
Why Hatfield House is a Favourite for Sikh Weddings
Couples love Hatfield House not just for its beauty but for its versatility. It has the space for big, lively receptions, the kind of light that photographers dream of, and gardens that make portraits look like film scenes. For Sikh weddings, it provides a stunning contrast between tradition at the Gurdwara and celebration in a historic English setting.
Thank you, S & M, for letting me be part of your incredible day. From the cat’s approval to the Dhol beats, and everything in between, it was a wedding full of character — just like the two of you.
