Chuppah at Borehamwood & Elstree Synagogue, party at London Shenley Club
Some days just buzz from the first “good morning.” Rachel’s getting-ready at her parents’ place in Watford was all laughter, last-minute lists, and “has anyone seen the kippot?” energy. By the time we reached Borehamwood & Elstree Synagogue, you could feel that wonderful mix of nerves and excitement that only a big Jewish wedding brings. Under the chuppah, the room turned soft and sacred; outside, friends were already limbering up for round one of dancing.
Ceremony → confetti of hugs
Their ceremony at Borehamwood & Elstree Synagogue (BES) was heartfelt and elegant, with those quiet glances between them that say more than a mic ever could. The moment glass met heel… boom: hugs, cheers, and that first surge of music that hinted at the chaos to come. BES is a cornerstone for the local community, and it felt like the whole neighbourhood showed up.
Shenley takeover: lawn, marquee, repeat
We rolled over to the London Shenley Club in Radlett — a cricket-ground wedding gem with a 19th-century pavilion and wide, green backdrops that practically beg you to celebrate outside. The vibe: sunshine, fizz, canapés, and the hora breaking out on the lawn before anyone said “shall we move to the marquee?” Then it moved to the marquee. Then back to the lawn. Then… honestly, I lost count. That’s how you know it’s a good one.
Speeches & dancefloor mayhem
Speeches swung between misty-eyed and full-on comedy roast (the best kind). Parents nailed the heartfelt stuff; friends supplied the chaos. And once the band/DJ kicked in, chairs went up, circles formed, and the hora did that magical thing where it resets everyone’s step counter to zero. People danced everywhere: grass, boards, side paths, you name it. I’m pretty sure even the pavilion did a little shimmy.
Why Shenley works so well
Set in Hertfordshire countryside with that classic pavilion charm, London Shenley Club gives you lawns for outdoor energy and flexible indoor spaces for the party to roll late — a sweet combo for Jewish weddings that love to move. (Their events suite looks out over the pitch and is designed for big, open dancefloors — no pesky pillars.)
Rachel & Adam — thank you for trusting me to chase your day from Watford to Borehamwood to Shenley. From quiet vows to full-tilt dancing, you gave us everything. More of this, please.
