Mandap marathons, dad’s surprise nap, and a topor that almost stole the show
Some wedding days are like stories stretched across time. With Payal & Pranoy’s North Mymms Park wedding, every moment felt amplified — gorgeous, emotional, and yes, hilarious in places.
Morning & The Mandap Marathon
They began the day in the suites: quiet nerves, hair & makeup by Akshee Shah, soft laughter, anticipation. Then out on the lawn, beneath the mandap, the religious ceremony began — and it seemed to last a lifetime (in the best way). Between blessings, rituals, and that moment when you think “wait — are we nearly done?” I joked I’d bought popcorn for the audience. But every frame was worth it.
And let’s talk about that topor. For the uninitiated, a topor is the delicate, white, conical headgear traditionally worn by Bengali grooms, made of sholapith (fragile stuff) and believed to bring good luck. On Pranoy’s head it looked regal… until a gust of wind nearly had it flying off like a wedding drone. He fought valiantly.
The Dad Delay & Civil Ceremony
We thought we were done after the mandap. But nope — the bride’s dad had other plans. He went home to change outfit, then apparently thought “hey, a quick nap” was a smart idea. Yes. We waited. Finally, he reappeared suited, polished, apologetic — and off we went to the civil ceremony under the arch. The vows were everything, but by then we were all grateful just to be moving again.
Reception Madness
Inside the marquee, the decor by Gayatri was lush, the feast by Laguna unbeatable, and DJ by NRI Events brought the tunes that brought the house. Speeches had the room in stitches — uncles teasing, cousins poking fun, tears and laughter in the same line. The dancefloor? Dance chaos. You could feel bodies moving, hearts beating, shoes flying, energy shifting.
